As the academic year draws to a frantic end, it is important to take time to pause and reflect on the many achievements and successes of 2016. There have been numerous events and occasions where the St Joseph’s community has recognised the great times and the more difficult moments of this year.

Each year level has celebrated its final Mass as a cohort, recalling all of the experiences shared together. The Year 12 students attended their Valedictory Dinner and Awards Evening, their final act as students of St Joseph’s. The Year 7 students attended a Reflection Day at Don Bosco Retreat Centre in Lysterfield where they were asked to focus on the memorable experiences they have encountered in their first year of secondary schooling.

It was with great sadness, and an immense sense of loss, that a large number of students and staff felt the sudden passing of former St Joseph’s student, Niall Hargreaves. After a funeral service was held for Niall at St John the Baptist Church on Tuesday 22 November, a Memorial Mass was celebrated with Niall’s family and a large group of his friends from Year 11 in the College Chapel. Special thanks to Fr Jim Ackerman who presided over both of these occasions and to all staff who assisted both the family of Niall and many of his friends with genuine warmth and compassion.
