As the colder days begin to become more noticeable, students are now well into the second term. Over recent times, our Year 7 students have participated in the Flight Excursion where their understanding of Physics principles was sure to have been sharpened. Year 8 students completed part of the Four Seasons Outdoor Education program which Mr James Whiting coordinated. It was held at Trees Adventure and there were some wonderful stories of courage and accomplishment.

Last weekend, the College hosted OzBosco with 180 young people from across Australia coming together to celebrate Salesian spirituality and how this impacts their lives and the lives of others. My heartfelt appreciation is extended to Miss Ann Maree Pagon, Mr Gerard Burke, Miss Bronwyn Dean, Mr Peter Wright and all staff and students who were involved in any way in making this event so successful.

The ACC (Associated Catholic Colleges) held its inaugural Service Awards recently where many staff from across the ACC schools were recognised for their significant contributions. It was a delightful event held at Mazenod College.

For those of you who would like to explore the ACC a little more, may I recommend to you that you visit its website at www.accmelb.com.au. St Joseph’s College’s move to the ACC has been very positive and it has brought to life for our students strong competition conducted in a great spirit. Of course, ACC is about more than sport. Debating, public speaking, culinary, music, chess, leadership, arts, technology and a range of other activities help round out the program so that we are continuing to develop the whole person.

One of the most important days on our calendar is Monday 7 May being Salesian Action Day. It is day where the whole community comes together for mass and there are activities to support fundraising for the Salesian Missions.

I extend the thanks of the community to Ms Sherridan Martin for her dedicated service to the College over recent years and wish her well in the future.

Congratulations to Mrs Marie Takahashi and her husband, Luis, on the birth of Ayane Maria.

All the best for the fortnight ahead.

Ms Cathy Livingston
Principal
