Excellence in Everything We Do

The St Joseph’s College song contains the line Excellence in everything we do, inspired by Don Bosco’s description of his pupil Michael Magone’s personal pursuit of excellence. It is an apt line to have in our song, as all St Joseph’s students are encouraged to achieve excellence, but also, and far more importantly, pursue excellence.

Colour Him Love

The lines below come from the song Colour Him Father, released by the American soul group ‘The Winstons’ in 1969. In this funky song, the band describes many of the traditional attributes of fathers – strength, sacrifice, wisdom and love. There's a man at my house, he's so big and strong He goes to work

Faster, Higher, Stronger

The Olympics is a fascinating event. Every four years we stay up and watch sports from exotic places like Rio de Janeiro that we would normally have little or no interest in. Not only do we become absorbed in these most obscure of sports, but, for a fortnight at least, we also become instant experts

Lessons from PokemonGO!

Just like that, world is awash in Pokemon. The sudden appearance and subsequent popularity of the game Pokemon GO! has underlined the light-and-shadow nature of technology yet again. A game that encourages its users to go outdoors, to explore their local areas and neighbourhoods like modern-day, suburban Tom Sawyers is something positive. Likewise, the

A Term of Opportunities

Welcome to Term 3. After two weeks of holidays where the skies were grey, the wind was high and the rain came down in sheets, it was interesting that the first day back at school welcomed with blue skies and sunshine. Addressing the boys, I commented that this must have meant that the weather was
